Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema faces a minimum of 5 years in jail if found guilty of being involved in a s£xtape blackmail of French teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
Benzema is currently under a formal investigation for “complicity in attempt to blackmail” and conspiring to commit a criminal act.
The former Olympique Lyon man has denied the accusations, with his lawyers claiming he played no part in the blackmail.
Benzema’s lawyer, Sylvain Cormier said: “Karim Benzema has absolutely nothing to hide.
“He supports his friend, Mathieu Valbuena, with all his heart. He took no part, I state this again – no part – in the blackmail or blackmail attempts.”
He added: “Karim Benzema will show he acted in good faith, and I hope this will be seen as soon as possible.”
Both players were not named in France’s squad to play in England.
